International Women's Day 2027 campaign theme: PROGRESS PARITY

Each year, an International Women’s Day campaign promoting collective action for gender equality is featured on the website. For 2027, the IWD campaign focus is Progress Parity.

When we Progress Parity, we build a better future

A focus on gender parity is timely. According to the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Gender Gap Report, parity is still 120 years away. And, with no economy having reached full parity, every step forward matters.

To progress gender parity is an urgent call to action. The current pace is far too slow.

Gender parity remains unachieved across all areas of society, encompassing not only equal representation, but also equitable access, participation, opportunities, resources, support and outcomes in health, education, economic participation and opportunity, political empowerment and beyond.

WEF's Global Gender Parity Sprint calls to "reset the time to parity" and deliver more inclusive economic transformation, innovation and growth.

The Progress Parity Campaign encourages collective action to accelerate progress towards gender equality worldwide.

The journey we make today shapes the future we create tomorrow

This campaign celebrates how far the world has come, yet highlights how far we still need to go.

To Progress Parity means to deliberately move towards a world where women have equitable opportunities, equal representation and influence.

Parity unlocks innovation and growth. It helps create stronger, fairer and more prosperous societies.

Progressing parity means recognizing advancement, championing what works, challenging what holds women back, and turning commitment into meaningful action. It's about recognizing the people and organizations already making a difference, sharing ideas and solutions that work, opening doors, challenging barriers, investing in women and girls, and inspiring others to do the same.

Because progress builds progress.

And when more women can participate, lead, create, innovate and thrive, everyone benefits.

To Progress Parity requires solid effort, and we can all play a part.

Visibility matters. Action matters. Measurable progress matters.

Progressing gender parity requires momentum

Whether you're an individual, business, community, nonprofit organization, government, educator, campaigner or change maker, your actions can help Progress Parity.

Get involved with IWD Giving

With Giving Tuesday being the biggest Giving Day of the year, together let's make IWD the second. It's an ambitious mission, but if all IWD events fundraised and/or promoted visibility for a Charity of Choice, just think how much support could be generated for women-focused nonprofits worldwide.

Check out the IWD Giving Directory and get involved with IWD Giving.

Remember, all IWD activity is valid

IWD provides an important opportunity for groups worldwide to elevate and amplify their focus on gender equality.

With well over a century of history and change, the first International Women's Day was held in March 1911. Today, groups choose to mark IWD in whatever manner they deem most relevant, engaging, and impactful for their specific context, objectives, and audience. IWD is about gender equality in all its forms. For some, IWD is about fighting for women's rights. For others, IWD is about reinforcing key commitments, while for some, IWD is about celebrating success. And for others, IWD can mean festive gatherings and celebratory parties. Whatever choices are made, all choices matter, and all choices are valid. All activity helps contribute to, and forms part of, the thriving global IWD ecosystem that focuses on gender equality.

World-renowned feminist, journalist and activist, the late Gloria Steinem, reportedly once explained: "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights."

IWD is a truly inclusive, diverse and eclectic moment of impact worldwide. Get involved!
