The problem is that our labor laws have not adjusted to meet our changing circumstances. Most of our labor laws were written in the 1930's when many American's lived in an Ozzie and Harriet lifestyle. Clearly this has changed and it is about time for our laws to be updated so that they reflect these changing circumstances. Women should not have to choose between having a career and being a mother because in many circumstances this is no longer a practical option. We need to be focusing on giving women the freedom to make these choices. At the National Center for Policy Analysis we believe this can best be done by providing women with flexible/portable benefits as well as workplace flexibility and tax fairness. I sincerely hope that First Lady Michelle Obama will follow through on her promises and make some much needed reforms which will allow women to better balance work and family! Women's entry to the workforce has offset their representation in
the domestic sphere. Domestic duties and motherhood has no value to a capitalist system. Women have entered the workforce instead, yes
but the loss of domestic duties and motherhood must be offset
somewhere. As such duties are a necessity we must distribute the
expense over the whole of the population to support PAID MATERNITY LEAVE AND OR PATERNITY LEAVE. We must socialize or communalize the expenditure.
