My vagina had always simply been my vagina. Untill I saw an ad for labia corrective surgery. But why would my vagina need a correction? Apparently there was something wrong. For a breef moment it crossed my mind that maybe I needed surgery as well and that thought startled me. Because who would I then give the right to determine what I should look like? Who thought up that a vagina should only be a small slit and could it be true that most vaginas were shaped the way the ad suggested should be the case?
I found that hard to believe and decided to start photographing them with the idea in mind to show everybody in the end what real vaginas actually look like and see the variety between them. Because with all of us being so different from one another, how can anyone determine what a vagina should look like. Aren't all our vaginas just perfect the way they are?
On occasion of International Women's Day I made the project into a short film so women worldwide can see that, like there are millions of different faces, there are millions of different vaginas. And that every single one of them, is ok.
