Arafura Music Collective "In Her Footsteps" celebrating the music of women composers

When: March 7 2021

Where: Darwin, Australia

Celebrate International Women’s Day 2021 with Arafura Music Collective.

We invite you to join us on March 7, in the beautiful surrounds of the George Brown Botanical Gardens, where you will be delighted, engaged, and moved by the rich intimacy of chamber music composed by women composers.

Illuminating the courage and creativity of women composers across time, genre, and place, the performance includes works from the Middle Ages, Baroque, Romantic to contemporary Australian. From ethereal beauty to downright quirky this music is diverse, clever, and beautiful.

You may not be familiar with the names of the composers; Hildegard von Bingham, Elizabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Grażyna Bacewicz, Clemence de Grandval, Katy Abbott, Clare Maclean, Anna Baadsvik, Cathy Applegate, Nora Lewis and Netanela Mizrahi. However, once you hear the music of these remarkable women you will ask yourself why?

During the performance NT based composer Cathy Applegate will provide an insight into the creative life and challenges of a women composer.

Arrive at 4:30pm to enjoy a complimentary drink.
