Imagine having a 1% chance of survival.

That was the situation facing Stephanie Inglis in 2016.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist in judo was teaching in Vietnam when she was seriously injured in an accident. Doctors in Vietnam gave her a 1% chance of recovery.

A crowdfunding campaign raised money to cover the cost of treatment in Thailand and a flight back to Scotland. She woke up from a coma in a hospital in Edinburgh, six weeks after the accident.

Stephanie was used to fighting her way through life as part of her successful judo career, but her fight back to health makes for an incredibly inspiring story. Her story is one of achievement, resilience, courage and the power of human connection. Hear first-hand how it happened.

About the Speaker
Stephanie Inglis began judo aged four with her dad as her first coach. One of the things she instantly loved about judo was that she got the chance to beat up the boys.

She had been part of the Scottish and British Senior team since she was 15 and represented her country at many competitions all over the world, gaining medal success in countries including Samoa, Australia, Mauritius, France and Netherlands to name a few.

The highlight of her sporting career was representing Team Scotland at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and winning Scotland’s first silver medal.

Stephanie has also studied two university degrees in business alongside judo.
