Nillumbik International Women's Day Dinner
When: March 4 2020
Where: Melbourne, Australia
Nillumbik Shire Council proudly presents the 2020 International Women’s Day Dinner.
Join us as we recognise and celebrate the great achievements of women, and address barriers that continue to perpetuate gender inequality.
Held in March each year since 1911, International Women’s Day (IWD) brings together people in every country of the world to promote and celebrate a gender-balanced world.
This year, Nillumbik will be hosting a dinner at Eltham Community and Reception Centre on Wednesday 4 March.
The 2020 IWD theme is #EachForEqual, which encourages all of us to help create a gender equal world by challenging stereotypes, fighting biases, broadening perceptions and celebrating women's achievements.
This year’s guest speaker will be celebrated Australian author Maxine Beneba Clarke, whose fiction, non-fiction and poetry explores contemporary themes of bullying, relationships, migration, racism and environmentalism.
Feminist action group The Violet Fems, made up of students from Eltham High School, will also join the speaking line-up. The group was recently awarded a grant as part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign for their installation The Catwalk, which put the spotlight on gender inequality as seen through the issue of catcalling.
The inaugural Young Women Leaders of Nillumbik Awards will be presented by Mayor Karen Egan and Councillor Jane Ashton.
Musical entertainment will be performed by Luna and the Moon, and the Women in Business Marketplace will be hosted by local female entrepreneurs.
The function will run from 6pm - 9.30pm and your $45 ticket includes entry to the Women in Business Marketplace with canapés and a glass of bubbles on arrival, networking opportunities, live entertainment, buffet style dinner including dessert and a gift bag.
Ticket sales close Friday 28 February 2020.
