Film Screening: Queen of Katwe

In celebration of International Women's Day 2020, SowHope is hosting a screening of Queen of Katwe at Celebration! Cinema Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids, MI, on Sunday, March 8th at 2:00 p.m. Plan to arrive at the theater early so you can check in, get concessions, and get your seat before the program starts.
This is a family friendly movie, so bring your kids and grandkids!
Queen of Katwe is based on the vibrant, true story of a young girl who lives in the slum of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda. Her life is about to change when she discovers she has an amazing talent for chess. The film stars Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo (Selma), Oscar winner and Tony-Award nominee Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) and newcomer Madina Nalwanga. It is directed by Mira Nair.
This film is a celebration of the human spirit, and highlights the power of hope in one woman or girl. A short, panel-led discussion will follow the movie.
