AI based Human Motion Research, presented by Yanran Li
Understanding human motion is one of the most fundamental problems for it has various practical applications in computer animation, human interaction robots, computer vision and computer graphics. Especially for the human interaction robotics or virtual characters in computer games, they are supposed to not only respond to the opponents’ movements but also have a pre-emptive ability to predict future movements. For animation production, motion synthetic techniques can be utilised to generate new motion data automatically so that the animators can avoid a lot of manual work and time. This talk will introduce the recent advanced approaches to understand human motions by Artificial Intelligence technologies and the related motion applications which are changing our world. The challenges and future applications of human motion researches will be discussed in this speech.
Meshless Method For Animating Elastoplastic Materials, presented by Yao Lyu
Physically-based modelling of elastoplastic material has been an active research topic for many years in computer graphics, particularly for its appealing application in visual effects industry. Current meshless simulation methods are powerful for animating the deformed bodies, especially dealing with the complicated deformation and various physical interactions, such as collision and cohesion. These methods are highly integrated into the production framework of Walt Disney Animation Studios and have been used in featured animations including Frozen and Zootopia. In this talk, we will give an introduction of several meshless modelling methods in animating elastoplastic materials and fracture dynamics, and versatile applications in computer graphics and animation factory, such as snow simulation, sand simulation and elastic objects.
Yanran Li is currently a Ph.D Researcher in the National Centre for Computer Animation, Bournemouth University, UK. She received her MSc degree in Mathematics from the University of Science and Technology of China and Bachelor degree in Applied Mathematics from Xian Jiaotong University. Her research interests include computer graphics, computer vision, deep learning, motions and images. Yanran obtained the Automation Fellowship from the South West Creative Technology Network (SWCTN) and worked as a New Talent candidate. She has been invited as reviewer by International Conference on Computer Animation and Social Agents (CASA), and the conference of Computer Graphics International (CGI).
Yao Lyu is currently a PhD student supervised by Prof. Jian Chang at the National Centre for Computer Animation, Bournemouth University, U.K. She received her MSc and BSc. degrees from Communication University of China. Her research interest focuses on physically-based simulation, such as elastoplastic and viscoelastic material modelling, discontinuous deformation.
