Finding a Voice Concert Series
When: March 8 2020
Where: Clonmel, Ireland
Finding A Voice Concert Series is a four-day festival of women composers through the ages to celebrate International Women’s Day. It takes place annually in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
For the third edition of Finding a Voice taking place from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th March 2020, the concert series will again focus on the music of women composers, building and expanding on the first two highly successful series in 2018 and 2019.
In 2020, Finding a Voice will focus on broadening the genres covered in the previous two years, to include traditional Irish music and jazz in addition to music from the twelfth century to the present day.
Already in the past two years Finding a Voice has programmed music by more than 50 women composers, arrangers and musicians and this number is set to grow again in 2020.
Once more, the music of several Irish women composers will be highlighted including Ailís Ní Riain, Gráinne Mulvey, Alyson Barber, Anne-Marie O’Farrell, Eibhlís Farrell, Joan Trimble and Siobhán Cleary – all but the last two have not previously featured in the last two years.
The concerts will also include music by significant international women composers including for the first time Amy Beach, Lili Boulanger, Caroline Lizotte, Mélanie Bonis, Jennifer Higdon, Anne Boyd, Tania Leon, Caroline Shaw, Sally Beamish, Sofia Gubaildulina, Missy Mazzoli, Dora Pejacevic and Mary Lou Williams among others.
As the only concert series of its kind in Ireland and the British Isles Finding a Voice offers a unique opportunity to hear music-making of the highest quality by unjustly neglected women composers through the years.
