A celebration of the achievements of women in STEM
After last year’s innaugural IWDTO event, #DevTO returns on March 7th 2016 with their 2nd Annual International Women’s Day Talks. In 2016 we are inviting 4 women in tech from across North America to visit us in Toronto to share inspirtational talks.
Dominique (Dom) DeGuzman is a community & self-taught software engineer with a background in desktop hardware and public speaking. Dom jumped into software and tools development after years of provisioning linux. Now focusing on Infrastructure Engineering at Twilio, she focuses on development pipeline, infrastructure monitoring, and internal communication tools. She is also the SF City Director for Lesbians WhoTech and organizer of Diversity Advocates. Alongside development, Dom is one of the founding members of Twilio's diversity and inclusion initiative as well as the SF City Director for Lesbians Who Tech. She travels speaking about diversity and inclusion, battling brogrammer culture, impostor syndrome, and encouraging more underrepresented minorities in the field to pursue a future in STEM.
Julia Nguyen is a web and mobile developer, writer, speaker, and computer science student. Born and raised in Toronto, she writes, speaks, and organizes communities focused on embracing empathy, diversity, inclusion, and mental health. She has written for ground-breaking publications like Model View Culture, Shameless Magazine, and AJ+. She’s a speaker for Prompt, a community of people in tech who give talks on mental illness. She has spoken at meetups and conferences like Women Who Code SF, Tech Inclusion Conference, and Dreamforce. Julia organizes mentorship events and workshops at the University of Waterloo Women in Computer Science Undergraduate Committee (WiCS) . She also volunteers with Write/Speak/Code, an organization empowering female thought leaders in technical writing, conference speaking, and open source.
Sylvia Ng is a growth and analytics professional with a passion for using the intersection of data, engineering, and marketing to fuel business results. Sylvia is currently the VP of Growth at ScribbleLive, one of the fastest growing technology companies in Canada. She enjoys using her skills acquired from past positions at Google and eBay in the community, frequently speaking at industry events (SMX, Data Marketing, Start-Up Fest) and participating on non-profit boards (Summerhill Impact, L'Arche Daybreak). Sylvia is a breast cancer survivor and lives in Toronto with her husband and two sons.
