Manchester United Women celebrates women around the world, encouraging a spirit of generosity and collaboration
In an era where football clubs are increasingly judged on their progressive culture as much as their results, Manchester United clearly sets a great standard in Premier League for championing gender equality. From investing in its women’s squad to amplifying female voices across leadership, media, and fan engagement, the club redefines what modern football culture looks like and proves that progress off the pitch is just as powerful as on the pitch.
International Women’s Day saw Manchester United Women celebrate women around the world, and encourage the spirit of generosity and collaboration.
"Because we’re stronger together. Growing the women's game is front of mind on International Women’s Day,” said Manchester United Women.
"When we give we gain," acknowledged the team.

Giving to gain in football
Manchester United Women's IWD campaign featured two of their star players, Gabby George and Millie Turner.
The two defenders emphasised that when people give, they also gain.

“We hear everyone speak about it, about the passion and the fight and desire that we have for one another and also the togetherness that we have. I think at Manchester United that is a real thing," said Gabby.

“There was one coach who really believed in me, where a lot of other coaches didn’t really see much potential. He gave me an opportunity. I am where I am today because of that," added Millie.
Giving to women's football
Gabby and Millie discussed their thoughts on the most valuable thing that someone can give to women’s football right now.
“Recognising that the women’s game is the 'women’s game' and we want to make it our own and carry on growing it, so little girls have things to dream about when they’re younger. When we were growing up, there wasn’t that exposure, and we’re giving it back now," explained Gabby.
“Better education around everything, like the professional side of it has grown so much, so bringing that with us. I know that a lot of teams lower down are getting ful-time now, which is great and that’s definitely bridging the gap. But I think more clubs can do that," shared Millie.
Gaining a better environment

The players were also asked what they'd give Manchester United, so that players coming in gain a better environment than when they started.
Gabby said: “Whenever they’re happy, we’re happy for them. Whenever they need an arm around their shoulder, we’re there for them too. It’s about creating an environment where everyone can come in and be themselves.”
Millie added: “Being positive around the environment and leading my example. I’ve been here since the start now, so I’ve seen everyone come and go, and I just hope that the environment we have and the togetherness that we have continues. I think it’s really special what we have here.”
Giving advice to young footballers
Furthermore, Gabby and Millie shared a key piece of valuable advice they'd give to a young girl who might be somewhat nervous about playing football.
“The most important thing about playing football is enjoying it. You give so many hours and so much sacrifice to do something that you love, so it’s really important that you have the love for the sport, and you continue to bring that daily. As long as you’re enjoying it, you’ll continue to progress. You’ll continue to become a better version of yourself," advised Gabby.
“I would say that I was nervous too, and you just have to ride those nerves. Nerves are also really good. They get you ready and they prepare you. As long as you love what you do, then nerves are great," said Millie.
