Reflecting on inclusion

I grew up in the US, in a den of lionesses (sisters, aunties, cousins all led by my grandmother) who taught me that of course every day is women’s day and every day is children’s day. It was empowering and challenging as most often support (and criticism!) of women comes from other women.

Therefore, International Women’s Day for me is an occasion to reflect on inclusion in general. It is a day for everyone to reflect on all the positive influences all people have on our society, and how much more progress we can make, if we can unleash the full power of 100% of humanity.

At Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd, one of India's top 5 FMCG companies, we are in multiple stages of our journey to ensure a truly diverse and inclusive culture. There are shining examples across the organization including our newest factory in Sanand, Gujarat, India, where over 40% of the workforce will be women.

Yet, there are also functions and expertise areas, where I would like more women to play lead roles - sales and market operations for example. We are evolving our plans from v1.0/v2.0 and there is no silver bullet.

This year, the help that I solicit from all of you is to stand true to the International Women’s Day campaign theme for 2018 of #PressforProgress.  

Let us try and be the enabler and catalyst for someone’s journey forward.
