Newport Live's IWD at The Riverfront
When: March 7 2020
Where: Newport, United Kingdom
Newport Live is celebrating International Women’s Day at the Riverfront throughout March with some fantastic performances and free taster sessions.
On Friday 6 March there will be two performances of Theatr Iolo's Muckers: 'Paloma has always mucked about with Pichón. Until one day a blinding white light lands on Paloma, and her days of dressing up and running wild seem to be over. Muckers is a quest for self-acceptance, with original songs and a little bit of Spanish.'
On Saturday 7 March there will be the first female-focused Park Run, as well as activities, workshops, demonstrations, performances, discussions and guest speakers to inspire women.
There will also be free Yoga, Zumba, Core, self-defence, massage, circus skills, dance, film screenings from WOW Film Festival, vocalists, and arts activity and much more free running throughout the day.
The day will close with a Women's Cabaret - an evening of music, poetry, dance and comedy all with a female focus.
From Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 March there will also be performances of Run Amok's new piece 'Microwave'.
Elinor Cook’s (Killing Eve, Series 3) 'Microwave' is a new play which boldly explores the anxiety and awkward hilarity of academic and sexual pressures on teenage women as they try to carve out their own identity.
Microwave poses a thought-provoking and compelling exploration of ‘how the other half live’ through the lens of teenage female friendship, whilst opening a wider discussion around how we educate and support teenage women in the 21st century.
