The future of women's football is MIGHTY according to Lionesses' supporters' song

 July 26, 2023

From Ricky Martin's Cup of Life (La Copa de la Vida) to Shakira‘s Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), the FIFA World Cup has seen many songs being touted as tournament soundtracks.

Now, it's turn for one of the women's teams to have a special Women's World Cup anthem created for them.

Inspired by the England Women's squad

After learning that the England Women's squad, the Lionesses, apparently had no official supporters' song, one female fan and footballer decided to make their own.

Carolyn Robertson, from the UK's East Sussex founded The Battle Axes veteran's Women's Team after watching the Lionesses' in action during the UEFA Women's EURO. The Battle Axes welcomes women over the age of 40 to play football in a fun, safe, and friendly environment. From humble beginnings of only six players, now The Battle Axes is a community of over 50 women, including Joanna Heath, former coach of Alessia Russo who plays for the England Women's team and credited Joanna's early training as her ‘first big step in football'.

Recording an anthem supporting the Lionesses in the Women's World Cup

Backed by her passion for football, Caz brought together a local group of musicians and artists to create Mighty Mighty, a dedicated England Lionesses supporters' song they launched ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Mighty M'Press are the group behind the Lionesses supporters' song - a unique collaboration of musicians and artistes. "The song was created as an anthem for the England Women's team to lifts their hearts and send them the message that they are Mighty!" said Mighty M'Press.

“I wanted to write a song for the Lionesses that celebrated their achievements and how they have inspired women and girls to get into football. The song reflects their journey so far and how they are breaking down barriers on and off the pitch. Our Lionesses deserve a song that lifts their hearts and sends them the message that they are…mighty!” explained Carolyn.

Sourcing local musical talent to create the song

While Carolyn penned the lyrics and melody, she reached out to local talent to help create and produce the song: singer L.; $MALLZ!E, a rapper and former athlete who wrote the additional rap lyrics; and mixer and producer OKJames.

From this creative collaboration came the Mighty M'Press, and their upbeat, catchy, and inspiring tune to support the England Women's team.

Mighty Mighty is an anthem celebrating the huge achievements of England's Women's national squad and their hopes for their future. The Lionesses are inspiring women and girls on and off the pitch.

Might Mighty is certainly a song to add to your Women's World Cup playlist - listen to it now!

Competing at the greatest FIFA Women's World Cup

The 2023 Women's World Cup is the first tournament held in the Southern Hemisphere, spread across ten stadiums in nine different cities across Australia and New Zealand, and sees the most countries ever to compete at the tournament with an increased prize pot.

With this magnitude comes a significant spectator size: FIFA has said the Women's World Cup might be the most attended standalone women’s sporting event in history.

“The future is women – and thanks to the fans for supporting what will be the greatest FIFA Women’s World Cup ever,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
