UK's Royal Mail elevates the focus on gender equality, sparking conversation and connecting communities

Royal Mail is an established brand with more than 500 years of history, from its beginning as a postal service exclusively for the King and his Court to the international delivery service it is today.

Royal Mail's long-standing role at the heart of community life sees it create special postmarks throughout the year to support community events and special days as a way of celebrating national life and reflecting what matters to people across the United Kingdom. By marking occasions with its postmarks, Royal Mail helps raise visibility, spark conversations, and connect communities.

2026 sees the 115th year of International Women's Day (IWD) - a milestone of collective action, advocacy, and progress toward gender equality. 2026 also sees a special postmark [as above] celebrating IWD, and encouraging communities to forge gender equality.

Being part of something special

Diversity, equity and inclusion are key priorities for the UK's Royal Mail.

"When you’re part of Royal Mail, you’re part of something special. We all have a part to play in nurturing One Royal Mail – our equitable, inclusive and accessible culture – so everyone is supported to develop, thrive and be the best they can be," says Royal Mail, which continuously fosters an inclusive culture of building connection and belonging for its people. The company celebrates diversity in all its forms, including age, disability, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or parental status, race, ethnicity and national origin, religion, faith or belief, gender identity, and sexual orientation. It provides a fair and accessible workplace where its people feel they belong and everyone can grow and succeed.

Did you know that Royal Mail has seven employee resource groups, each connecting and bringing together people from all parts of the company?

These vibrant networks were all started by Royal Mail's people, for its people, and each provides a great way to meet new colleagues.

Royal Mail's networks play a critical role in supporting the needs of its colleagues. They amplify the voice of colleagues and create communities for the company's diverse colleagues to celebrate dimensions of difference and create safe spaces for dialogue between underrepresented groups and allies.

  • EmbRace seeks to empower and enable black, Asian and minority ethnic groups to bring their whole self to work, access equal opportunities for personal and professional growth and make a positive contribution to Royal Mail and the communities we serve.

  • LGBTQ + & Friends is a safe space and growing community for LGBTQ+ colleagues and our allies. We’re breaking barriers and building allies so every colleague can feel empowered and comfortable being themselves.

  • Women & Allies exists to promote inclusivity and create a sense of community, celebrate success and create an open and safe space to talk about issues experienced by female colleagues at Royal Mail.

  • enABLE supports colleagues going through diagnosis, living with a disability, and their allies. Not all disabilities are visible, and the range of conditions that disability encompasses is vast. enABLE is committed to educating the business to create a more accessible environment, and providing a safe space to ask, learn, support, and champion inclusivity.
