Traditional work models are still constraining
Simon Belsham, notonthehighstreet.com, CEO
"Notonthehighstreet.com was founded ten years ago by two inspirational women who recognised the massive potential to connect the best creative small businesses with customers all over the world looking for unique products they couldn’t find on the High Street. We started with just 99 Partner businesses and today, we work with 5,000 creative small businesses, 90% of which are owned and run by women. Many of our Partners - male and female - are able to work flexibly around the demands of family and other non-work commitments. This is often a part of the motivation for setting up on their own in the first place, alongside wanting to do something creative, fulfilling, successful and something they love.
"In the years since Notonthehighstreet.com was established, the working environment has, thankfully, changed significantly. Gender diversity and gender equality are improving. But the truth is that traditional work models are still constraining and there is more to be done to create an environment that enables and encourages women to seize opportunities and to make a career work around other life commitments.
"So, on International Women’s Day, I support the call to #BeBoldForChange, for all the women who make Notonthehighstreet.com such an inspiring place to work and who, through their creativity and talent, are helping to change the future of work for men and women alike."
